This year, I had an idea for a photo project I really wanted to attempt. Sadly, if never came together mostly due to me not having any time to dedicate to it.
Thereβs always next year, so they say.

Hereβs a recent favorite snap. Definitely need to get back into the habit of sharing images of people and a bit less images of trash on the sidewalk and busted cars. Weβll get there. I can never fully quit the busted cars, though. Excited to get back out to the farm maybe this weekend! Iβve got tons more images from there, as wellβ¦

Some great nuggets in this talk with Tim Carpenter and Jason Lee. Photography is showing how you make sense of the world. Heidegger said: itβs not what we know about the world thatβs really ourselves, itβs our habits and our inclinations, and the way we move through it; thatβs who we really are.
When I pulled into the parking lot (reluctantly, as I loathe Dollar General) to buy some cups, this scene got me incredibly excited. I snapped a few frames out my window with the trusty Ricoh, and here we are, discussing it on the internet a week later.
Will it work as well in b/w? Likely not. Luckily Iβm a color junkie.

Itβs wild how quickly time moves on once you de-prioritize something from your life.

Date right on the photo? What a concept! Roadside trees, somewhere outside of Dixion, Illinois. May, 2025. Β© Clayton Hauck
Soon, I will start to post more βrealβ photos from my Illinois Wandering trips. Until I find the time to edit said images, I figured I would stay on the Roadside Tree theme and post a phone image. The immediacy of the iPhone is hard to defeat, I will admit. I leaned on the phone for this purpose for far too long and am still struggling to fight the urge. Apps like Lapse make it even more fun and convenient.
Side note: I love this time of year, when the trees are leafing out, yet not so full that you canβt see through them.
